Science:
Monday most students will be absent from school on the Silver Dollar City field trip for band/choir/orchestra. For the students that will be at school we will watch a Mythbusters and discuss the use of the cast's use of the scientific method.
Tuesday we will discuss chapter 5 lesson 1 to introduce volcanoes. Students will complete a handout in class.
Wednesday students will be learning about volcanic eruptions. We will complete the text questions together as a class.
Thursday focus turns to volcanic landforms. Student will complete a handout labeling the different parts of a volcano in class.
Friday students will watch a Bill Nye episode on volcanoes and complete the corresponding video handout.
Social Studies:

Tuesday we will discuss chapter 17 section 3. Students will be learning about the conclusion of the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg. We will also watch a short film on the Battle of Vickburg.
Wednesday students will be learning about the legacy of the Civil War. We will be discussing the losses and costs of the war and analyzing how the war transformed the nation forever.
Thursday students will be in the computer lab taking the End of Course District Exam. Following we will review for the chapter 17 test.

Week 35
Science:
Monday students will finish their plotting of world earthquakes from the USGS website.
Tuesday students will partake in the Mercalli Earthquake Scale activity.
Wednesday is the talent show and All-City track meet. Classes are short and I will be out for most of the day. Students will watch the Bill Nye the Science Guy episode on earthquakes.
Thursday is test day!

Wednesday students will complete their work calculating epicenters and we will discuss how seismologists monitor earthquakes.
Thursday students will watch a short film on the dangers of earthquakes and how engineers are designing new buildings to withstand deadly earthquakes.
Friday students will be working on the laptops, accessing the USGS website to plot recent earthquakes on a world map.

Week 33
Science:
Monday we will discuss the answer to the plate tectonic video handout. We will spend the rest of the class period discussing lesson 2 - seafloor spreading.
Tuesday it's all about plate tectonics. We will look at lesson 2 and students will complete a handout in which they will be labeling the different plates. We will also watch several animations on the different type of plate movements.
Wednesday students will complete several review questions for chapter 3 before beginning lesson 1 of chapter 4 - forces in the earth's crust.
Thursday we will read an article together describing how the forces within the earth's crust creates earthquakes and we will review the different fault types.
Friday it's all about seismic waves. Students will be learning the difference between P-Waves and S-Waves and partaking in the Slinky Lab to help them with their understanding.

Science:
Monday we will finish our discussion of rock types by looking at metamorphic rocks. We will finish the period by beginning our rock identification lab.
Tuesday we will finish the rock identification lab and discuss. We will also discuss the rock cycle.
Wednesday students will complete a handout on the rock cycle. Following we will watch a 15 min. video over the rock cycle and students will complete a handout that goes with the film.
Thursday students will be journeying through the rock cycle as part of an in class activity.
Friday students will partake in a rock cycle lab that involves lots of fun with chocolate chips.
Social Studies:
Monday students will complete an in class handout over key chapter 14 vocabulary and we will discuss chapter 15 section 1.
Tuesday our attention turns to section 2 and the famous Dred Scott court decision and John Brown's attack on Harper's Ferry.
Wednesday students will be given a series of letters written by an eye witness of the attack on Harper's Ferry and will be asked to analyze the letters and answer a series of questions.
Thursday we will move on to section 3 and discuss the every growing division between the north and south and the election of 1860.
Friday students will complete a map handout on the election of 1860. If time allows, we will watch Channel One News.

Thursday students will be learning about Sojourner Truth's famous "Ain't I a Woman?" speech. We will talk about the significance and meaning of the speech and hear an audio reading of it as well.
